Toxicity of Pharmaceutical Treatments in Pediatric Leukemia and Lymphoma Cases

About this Special Issue

Background

It is a great pleasure to welcome this Special Issue of Pathology and Oncology Research about toxicity in leukemia patients, as former Chairman of the International- BFM-Study Group (I-BFM SG,) a globally renowned group undertaking research on every aspect of pediatric leukemias and lymphomas. For more than 40 years, the I-BFM network works to advance the cure rate and the quality of life of children and adolescents with pediatric hematological malignancies.

I-BFM regroups a growing number of national study groups from more than 34 countries worldwide, and its committees and working groups address specific aspects of research on pediatric leukemia and lymphoma. In that context, the attention to the early and late toxicity in leukemia and lymphoma patients, was one of the most relevant and active area of research. This activity resulted in many scientific publications and guidelines to take the challenge that the current paradigms in pediatric oncology are no longer to “cure at any price,” but to cure "at the lowest price,” to secure long-term complication-free survival and a holistic approach to psychological, educational, social support for children with hematological malignancies.

Prof. Andrea Biondi
2016-2022 President of the I-BFM SG
